Some information about shooting at 10 m with air rifle and air pistols Air rifle and air pistol shooting is a very popular sport in Germany. This has something to do with World War II. Loosing this war, Germany had for long years no right to manufacture real pistols and rifles. For this reason some German manufacturers produced since 1950 simple air rifles with break down barrels and a terrible trigger mechanism. Over the years there was a development to much more sophisticated air rifles which are operated by compressed air and CO² without any recoil.
In Germany you will find about 15000 shooting clubs, united in the German Shooting Federation and operating on about 90000 ranges at a distance of 10 m.
You do not need in Germany a permit for an air gun. The air guns and air pistols are stamped with a "F" and can be sold to any citizen which is more than 18 years old. As ammunition you are using diablos .177 = 4,5 mm.
SPIETH has supplied for many years manual air rifle and air pistol devices. After that we produced since 1980 the electrical target carrier 10 m and since 1992 the Electronic Target with monitor.
SPIETH will give you any assistance wanted and required for the installation of our devices on 10 m. Very important is the height of the target with 140 cm plus/minus 0,05 m.
Also important is the lighting. We recommend an indirect lighting of the room with 150-200 LUX. The lighting at the target should be 700-800 LUX. These are the recommendations of the German Shooting Federation. For international competitions as per the rules of the UIT it is required 300 LUX for the room and at least 1000 LUX on the target. These values are needed to meet the requirements of the press and television.
Contrary to shooting with small bore rifles and pistols, you have no air pollution and empty cases using air guns. For this reason no special regulation regarding the air condition is necessary.
Air rifle and air pistol shooting is the future of the shooting sport. For some years the "Greens" all about the world are trying to cancel the shooting competitions in the Olympic program. Even target shooting is one of the sports with very old tradition, for this reason clay target shooting should remain as a very challenging sport in the Olympic program.
Since the Olympic Games 1992 at Barcelona/Spain, there are used Electronic Targets for air guns. Also the competition 10 m moving target was shot on Electronic Targets. This is a very interesting discipline, but due to the needed space and the more expensive rifles with scopes, it is limited to relatively few shooters.
Finally, please note that the 10 m shooting has the advantage that you can do it in your basement or in your garden, without bothering your neighbours by noise, or powder smoke.
